SENIOR FINANCE CONSULTANT (Fractional CFO & Accounting Services)
We’re looking for a Senior Finance Consultant to join our team—someone who can step in as a trusted partner to our clients and an extension of our internal team.
This role is designed for a finance leader who is equally comfortable operating at the CFO, Director, and Controller levels, depending on client needs. Some engagements will be highly strategic, while others will require rolling up your sleeves and getting into the details.
You’ll lead client relationships, oversee and support accounting work, and collaborate closely with the Founder to continue building and growing the firm. This is a great fit for someone who enjoys variety, ownership, and meaningful, mission-driven work.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Leadership & Advisory
Serve as the primary finance lead for assigned clients, acting as a Fractional CFO or senior finance partner
Provide strategic guidance around budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial planning
Translate financial data into clear, actionable insights for leadership teams and boards
Support clients through key moments such as growth phases, transitions, and system improvements
Financial Operations & Oversight
Oversee and, when needed, directly support accounting functions including month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting
Ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with GAAP and best practices
Review work prepared by accounting team members and provide feedback and guidance
Step into Controller- or Director-level responsibilities depending on the engagement
Team Collaboration
Provide mentorship and support to other team members
Help ensure consistency and quality across client work
Contribute to a collaborative, supportive, and accountable team environment
Firm Growth & Partnership
Partner closely with the Founder on client strategy, internal processes, and service delivery
Support business development efforts as needed (e.g., scoping, proposals, client conversations)
Play an active role in shaping the future growth of the firm
Qualifications:
8+ years of progressive experience in nonprofit accounting and finance
Experience operating in a CFO, Finance Director, or Controller capacity (or similar consulting experience)
Strong technical accounting skills and knowledge of U.S. GAAP
Ability to move between strategic thinking and detailed execution with ease
Experience with accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, Sage)
Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with non-financial stakeholders
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and accountable
Comfortable working independently in a remote, client-facing environment
Experience working with mission-driven organizations
What We’re Looking For
Someone who takes ownership and can confidently lead client relationships
A “player-coach” who is just as comfortable in the details as they are in strategy
A thoughtful, collaborative partner who aligns with our values: Authenticity. Partnership. Equity. Impact.
Someone with high emotional intelligence and discretion
Someone who is excited to grow with a boutique firm over time
And just as important: someone who enjoys the work, likes to laugh, and values building genuine relationships with both clients and teammates
Interview Process:
We value transparency and respect for candidates’ time. Our interview process is designed to be thoughtful, conversational, and efficient.
The process will include:
Application and resume review
Initial 20–30 minute introductory conversation with the Founder
One 45–60 minute panel interview with members of the Castro Concepts team
Follow-up conversations and/or references as needed
Because this is a highly relational, client-facing role, we place significant value on communication style, collaboration, and alignment with our firm values.
Compensation & Proposal Information:
This is an independent contractor (1099), remote role. Interested candidates are encouraged to share their preferred hourly or project-based rates, availability, and any additional information that may help us better understand their consulting approach and areas of expertise.
Engagement scope and hours may vary based on client needs, areas of specialization, and overall fit. We are looking for a long-term partner who is excited to grow alongside the firm as engagement opportunities continue to evolve.
Benefits & Opportunity:
This is an independent contractor role and not eligible for traditional benefits. The time commitment is up to 40 hours per month, with strong potential for growth.
We offer:
Flexible, fully remote work
The opportunity to work with mission-driven organizations making real impact
Variety in client work and exposure to different industries and growth stages
A collaborative, values-driven team environment
The ability to grow alongside a scaling firm and expand your role over time
If you’re looking for meaningful, engaging work and want to be part of a team that truly partners with its clients, we’d love to hear from you!
